Covenant Presbyterian Church

A Brief History...

On September 8th, 1963, sixteen pioneering Christ-followers signed a petition to become the first charter members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  The new church plant was approved by the Presbytery of Florida and supported by First Presbyterian Church and Faith Presbyterian Church, Tallahassee, Florida.  In November of 1963 the first service of organization was held at the Lillian Reudiger School.

Eventually sixty-five believers became charter members.  What a bold step of faith that was for those first members!  They left behind the comforts and accommodations of a fully established church with all of its provision and programs because they believed that God wanted to do a “new thing.”  Trusting in God’s providential care and grace to lead and support them, they joined hands and leaned into the unknown future.

Since that time many have joined with them, and the Lord has graciously provided and blessed throughout the years.  God has demonstrated the truth of the words we sing in that great old hymn Amazing Grace:

“through many danger, toils, and snares, I have already come;Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.”

For over forty years the church has experienced God’s providence and grace as is evidenced by the bonds of dear friendships, the transformation of lives, the accomplishments of ministry to those in need, and the contagious witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ in this community.  During the first forty years this church has been served by four called ministers: Reuben T. Allen, Jr, James F. Anderson, D. Breckenridge Castleman, and Lawrence Hendon.
